SUBJECT: UPDATE: One Arrested On Drug Charges, 2 DPD Investigators Injured

[DULUTH, MN] On 2/12/202 Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force investigators obtained a search warrant on the person, vehicle, and residence of Joseph Jeffrey Eastman (42). Upon arrival, investigators located Eastman in his vehicle outside his residence on the 2900 Block of W 3Rd St. Investigators boxed his vehicle in with squads, at which point Eastman intentionally rammed a squad with enough force to push the squad and flee in his vehicle. The investigator in the vehicle sustained a minor injury. During the search warrant of his residence, investigators located one firearm, along with .45 and .22 caliber ammunition, methamphetamine, and evidence of drug sales.

On 2/17/2021, investigators took Eastman into custody for five felony warrants from the 2/12/2021 incident. For the 2/17/2021 incident, Eastman is now in custody for 1st Degree Sale of Methamphetamine, 1st Degree Possession of Methamphetamine, and Fleeing Police in a Motor Vehicle. Yesterday, investigators seized seized two .45 caliber pistol magazines, methamphetamine, and evidence of drug sales.   

 

[DULUTH, MN] On 2/17/2021 at 11:30 AM, Duluth police officers and the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force assisted officers and investigators from the Superior Police Department on a traffic stop in the area of the 2000 Block of Hammond Avenue in Superior, WI on an individual known to have multiple felony warrants. The suspect fled in a motor vehicle and drove his car at officers, causing significant property damage to a garage, multiple squads, and minor injuries to two Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force investigators. Superior Police pursued the suspect into Duluth, which ended at 40th Avenue West and I-35. Joseph Jeffrey Eastman was taken into custody by the Duluth Police Department and was taken to the St. Louis County Jail for felony warrants on 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, 2nd Degree Sale of Cocaine, 2nd Degree Possession of Methamphetamine and Cocaine, Possession of Ammunition, and Fleeing Police in a Motor Vehicle. This investigation is ongoing and the charges requested for today’s incident are pending.
