INCIDENT TIME: 1638
INCIDENT LOCATION: 2422 W. 4th St.

At 1638 this afternoon, the Duluth Fire Department was dispatched to 2422 W. 4th St. for a structure fire. Upon arriving within two minutes, the first engine company on scene reported smoke showing from the basement of a two-story duplex.

All occupants of both living were able to exit the building safely, and firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes. Damage was contained to a portion of the basement and the adjacent exterior wall. The fire was stopped before it could damage either of the living units. Fire companies worked to expose a portion of the exterior wall to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

Fire companies from Lincoln Park, Spirit Valley and Downtown responded to the alarm.

The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office.
