Duluth Fire responds to water emergency on Park Point Beach
[Duluth, MN] At 3:40 p.m. the Duluth Fire Department responded to the report of a woman who was struggling 40 feet from shore and yelling for help on the 4600 block of Minnesota Avenue. The woman, age 19, was playing in the waves with her friends when a wave knocked her over and she was unable to stand back up. When crews arrived the woman’s, friends had been able to get her to the water’s edge. The woman was taken off the beach with the assistance of the Fire Department’s All-terrain Stokes Basket. Members of the Duluth Fire Department, Duluth Police Department, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, and Mayo Ambulance helped to carry the woman off the beach to the ambulance. She was then transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Crews from Headquarters responded to the scene. The Duluth Police Department, Mayo Ambulance, and the St. Louis County Sheriff Office assisted on scene.
The Duluth Fire Department would like to remind the public, that conditions at the beach can change quickly. There was a red flag warning in effect when this situation occurred. It’s important to pay attention to water conditions, and currents when you are at the beach.
