The Duluth Police Department is participating in the annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 3 from 5 – 9 p.m.
National Night Out is an event that helps enhance relationships between law enforcement and the neighborhoods they serve. Duluth Police Department Officers will be participating in neighborhood block parties throughout the city. If you are interested in hosting an event in your neighborhood, please complete and submit the form on the DPD's website prior to Monday, July 19.
A few other events the Duluth Police Department is participating in during the month of August is Kids, Cops and Cars, Operation K-9, and Get Hooked on Fishing.
Kids, Cops, and Cars is an annual event happening Thursday, August 19 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Bayfront Festival Park. This event will showcase multiple law enforcement and first responder vehicles that are ready to be explored and played in.
“This is one of my favorite events that the Duluth Police Department hosts,” said Chief of Police Mike Tusken. “It gives our officers a chance to interact with our residents and connect with our community.”
There will be K-9 demonstrations, tug-of-war, free food, and other activities to participate in at the Kids, Cops, and Cars event.
Operation K-9 will also be another event Duluth Police Officers, along with surrounding law enforcement agencies, will participate in. This is the seventh annual event that is hosted by the Northland K-9 Foundation.
There will be K-9 demonstrations, law enforcement vehicles on display, and an opportunity to meet the dogs of the Duluth Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Hermantown Police Department, and the Superior Police Department. Operation K-9 will be held Thursday, August 12 from 4 – 7:30 p.m. at UWS Field.
Every Tuesday during the summer, Duluth Police Officers and kids in the community go fishing, which is part of the department's ‘Get Hooked on Fishing’ program. This program builds relationships between youth and the Duluth Police Department.
“We want to thank all the sponsors and those who help volunteer during these events,” said Lieutenant Ken Zwak. “Without them, none of these events would be possible for us and for our community.”
You are encouraged to follow the Duluth Police Department on the website, Facebook and Twitter to stay updated on these and future events.
