SUMMER PROGRAMS RETURN TO THE DULUTH PUBLIC LIBRARY
THIS WEEK AFTER COVID HIATUS
The Library’s Two Biggest Summer Events Kick Off This Week: Kaleidescope Performances and the City Sounds Concert Series
DULUTH, Minn. – A little over a month ago (June 7th), the library reopened its doors to the public. This week, the library takes another big step by restarting its two biggest summer programs: Kalaeidescope and the City Sounds Concert Series.
About 7,000 patrons have visited the Main Library since the library reopened on June 7th, with many more patrons visiting the Mt. Royal and West Duluth branch libraries.
“Opening up the libraries for regular use again has been as exciting for staff as it is for the people we serve,” said Carla Powers, library manager. “We missed having in-person connections with the community and are so happy to welcome everyone back.”
After Kaleidescope and the City Sounds Concert Series were cancelled during the summer of 2020, the library’s two biggest summer events return this week.
Kaleidescope kicks off on Tuesday, July 13th at 10:30am and 1:30am at the Main Library plaza, with The Circus Science Spectacular. Kaleidescope performances are geared towards kids and caregivers and include magic shows, juggling acts and dance parties. Attendees can enjoy a show and then visit the library to borrow books, movies, toys and more. Regularly attract hundreds of attendees.
This year’s Kaleidescope performances include The Circus Science Spectacular (July 13th), Tuey & Juggling Skills (July 20th), The Dollipops (July 27th) and Brodini Comedy Magic Show (August 3rd).
A sign language interpreter will be present at all 1:30 shows.
The City Sounds Concert Series kicks off on Thursday, July 15th at 6pm on the library plaza with a performance by the Windjammers. The City Sounds Concert Series attracts fans of big band and swing music. Downtown employees can stroll over to the library plaza after work to enjoy a free concert. Dancing is encouraged.
The line-up for this year’s City Sounds Concert Series includes the Windjammers (July 15th), Duluth Symphonic Winds Community Band (July 22nd), Blue Water Big Band (July 29th), Big Time Jazz Orchestra (August 5th) and North Shore Big Band (August 12th).
