               Duluth home experiences $70,000 in damages following structure fire

[Duluth, MN] At approximately 11:36 a.m., the Duluth Fire Department responded to the report of a two-story single-family home structure fire located on the 100 block of East 8^th Street. Smoke was visible from the fire while crews were in route to the home. On arrival crews found the deck and the entire back of the home engulfed in flames. The tenants of the home were seen exiting the structure with their dog when crews arrived. None of the tenants were injured including the dog.

Crews began attacking the fire on the rear side of the home, while others made their way into the interior to conduct a primary and secondary search of the basement, first, and second floor. Searches confirmed that the home was void of occupants. Crews then began attacking the fire from within the interior of the structure. The fire extended to a second-floor bedroom. Crews began salvage and overhauling efforts

Crews from Headquarters, Lincoln Park, Woodland, and Spirit Valley responded to the call. The Duluth Police Department provided traffic assistance during the call. Traffic was closed on the 8^th Street from approximately 11:40 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be intentional. The incident remains under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal’s Office. Damages to the home are estimated at $70,000 to the structure and its contents. No additional information is available at this time.
