NATURE OF INCIDENT: Shooting
CASE NO.: 21111053
INCIDENT DATE: 8/10/2021
INCIDENT TIME: 8:20 a.m.
INCIDENT LOCATION: 15th Ave E and Superior St

At around 8:20 a.m., Tuesday, August 10, 2021, Duluth Police Officers were dispatched to a call of sounds of shots fired in the area of 15th Ave E and Superior St. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Kewon Dunn, was in a car driven by 25-year-old Brianna Clark-Johnson going southbound on 15th Ave E when they saw the victim walking down the street. Dunn shot between 5-8 rounds at the victim. The victim, identified as 21-year-old Christian Grimes, was struck and transported to the hospital. Last known condition of the victim was in stable condition. Initial investigation showed that both the suspect and victim knew each other and the drive-by shooting stemmed from an altercation earlier in the day.

Upon speaking to multiple witnesses, officers located Dunn in a home in the 1900 block of Jefferson Street. Duluth Police Investigators and the Tactical Response Team arrested Dunn without incident on pending charges of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Clark-Johnson was also arrested in connection to the shooting on pending charges of Aiding an Offender.

We want to thank the community, DPD’s Tactical Response Team, Duluth Police Investigators, Duluth Police Officers, and assistance from the Superior Police Department for their hard work in apprehending Dunn and Clark-Johnson.
