SUBJECT: Duluth Police Officers and Duluth Firefighters Respond to Pedestrian vs. Bus Accident

INCIDENT LOCATION: Dick's Sporting Goods
64-year-old David John Weston of Duluth passed away from injuries sustained after being hit by a DTA bus around 9:52 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2021, outside of Dick’s Sporting Goods at Miller Hill Mall. Upon arrival, officers and firefighters located Weston pinned under the bus. Duluth Firefighters deployed airbags to lift the bus off Weston to extricate him. Duluth Firefighters, Duluth Police Officers, the Minnesota State Patrol, and Mayo Ambulance provided lifesaving efforts.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation by Duluth Police Investigators with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol. Once the findings from the investigation are complete, Duluth Police will release more information.
The Duluth Police Department and Duluth Fire Department wish to offer their condolences to Mr. Weston’s loved ones. The Duluth Police Department also wants to remind everyone to drive slowly, put down the distractions, and watch for pedestrians.
