The Duluth Police Department is proud to announce that this is the first year DPD is participating in the Pink Patch Project. The project is designed to use pink patches during the month of October to bring attention to the fight against breast cancer and to support breast cancer research organizations in combating the disease.

“This new innovative public awareness campaign is another opportunity for the Duluth Police Department to continue to serve our community in a respectful, caring, and selfless manner,” said Chief Mike Tusken. “We’re happy to be able to not only bring awareness of breast cancer, but also donate 100% of the proceeds to the American Cancer Society to continue the fight against all cancers.”

The Duluth Police Department picked the American Cancer Society to partner with because the organization aims to free the world of all cancers.

“Everyone knows someone who’s been affected by cancer, whether it’s a loved one or a friend,” said Chief Tusken. “That is why we decided to have all the proceeds we raise go to the American Cancer Society, which helps treat all cancers, not just breast cancer.”

During the month of October, Duluth Police officers will be wearing these commemorative pink patches for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The commemorative patches will also be available for the public to purchase for $10/patch during the month of October.

“We’re happy to partner with the Duluth Police Department to continue to provide care and treatment to patients suffering from cancer,” said Amy Countryman, American Cancer Society.  “The money raised from these patches will help us invest in innovative breast cancer research, provide 24/7 support for patients and their families, and help people reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it may be more treatable.”

The Pink Patch Project will be an annual campaign during the month of October. Patches can be purchased online here. If you purchase a patch online, send your receipt to police@duluthmn.gov and we’ll send you your patch upon confirmation of purchase, or you can stop at the DPD’s lobby, 2030 North Arlington Ave., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and a volunteer will give you a patch upon confirmation of your online purchase.

The Duluth Police Department will join other agencies in the state of Minnesota who is also part of the Pink Patch Project to present a check to the American Cancer Society. Follow our social media pages to stay updated on this event.
