In partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Duluth Police Department is participating in the Red Ribbon Campaign. The campaign not only brings awareness to drug use and the problems related to drugs facing our community but also honors Enrique Camarena, a DEA Special Agent who was killed by drug traffickers in 1985.

“Honoring Enrique Camarena brings attention to inherent dangers of policing and the dedicated service and sacrifice of those who serve on the front lines and experience the societal cost drugs have on the people of our community,” said Chief Mike Tusken.

The magnets, donated by the DEA, help encourage those in our community to promote a drug-free lifestyle.

“It is incumbent that each of us work hard to achieve a drug free community and support those who suffer from the scourge of addiction to get the help they need to break the grip of substance abuse and self-harm,” said Chief Tusken.

The Duluth Police Department wants to remind you to reach out to its CORE Unit or the Substance Use Recovery Team (SURT) if you are in need of help related to drug abuse. The CORE Unit and SURT team help bridge the gap between behavioral health crises and getting individuals the help they need.
