City's Concrete Pavement Rehabilitation starts

August 16

The City of Duluth will begin its 2010 Concrete Pavement Rehabilitation project on Monday, August 16, 2010. This project will affect 24th Avenue West from Michigan Street up to 13th Street.

The rehabilitation will require crews to close off several blocks at a time as they move up the hill from Michigan Avenue. Residents will continue to have access to their properties. The City's contractor for the project will be notifying residents of specific access closures as the work progresses.

This project involves rehabilitation of the concrete pavement, pedestrian ramp improvements, and catch basin rehabilitation. The pavement rehabilitation work is necessary to repair and correct failing concrete pavement joints and cracks to provide for a smoother ride as well as lengthen the life of the entire pavement. By performing this work now, future more extensive and costly repairs can be delayed. The pedestrian ramp improvements are necessary to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, and the catch basin rehabilitation will make needed repairs to the storm sewer collection system, thus lengthening its life and reducing future repairs.

The City’s engineering consultant for this project, SEH, will have a representative on-site daily to monitor progress.
