Duluth Fire Department postpones start of Car Seat Safety Clinics due to COVID-19

[Duluth, MN] The Duluth Fire Department decided this week to postpone the start of its Car Seat Safety Clinics until April due to the increase in COVID-19 cases. The Department was supposed to host its first clinic next week and in February and March.

“Due to the high rise of COVID-19 cases locally and within the state, we have made the hard decision to postpone the start of the clinics until April,” Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj said. “This decision was made out of concern for our staff, their families, and the public. We will reevaluate the COVID-19 positivity rate in Duluth and St. Louis County in March and make an announcement at that time.”

Car seat inspections can be scheduled individually by appointment only. To schedule an appointment please contact the Life Safety Division at 218-730-4380. COVID-19 protocols and screening will be in place for those who participate.

Last year, the Car Seat Safety Clinic was held six times due to COVID-19 concerns. A total of 51 families attended the clinics and were assisted in installing their car seats correctly.

The clinics are a free service provided to the public through a partnership with St. Luke’s.
