CASE NO.: 2200168
INCIDENT DATE: 2/9/2022
INCIDENT TIME: 1118
INCIDENT LOCATION: 615 Old Howard Mill Rd

[Duluth, MN]

This morning, the Duluth Fire Department responded to an attached garage fire in the Hidden Valley neighborhood. The home was listed as a group home for disabled residents and that the fire was in the garage.

Crews arrived to find heavy fire in the garage involving a vehicle inside and another outside in the driveway. A search of the home located and rescued one resident in a basement bedroom who was disabled and required assistance in getting out of the house. He was medically assessed by Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service and transported to St. Luke's for evaluation out of precaution. There were also two pets inside the home that were found safe and need no assistance.

Fire damage was limited to the garage with some smoke damage inside the home. The fire was stopped by an aggressive fire attack with four hose lines in both the garage and inside the house. Fire did not breach the garage wall. The garage is a total loss but the house has only minor damage.

Damage estimates are estimated at $40,000 for the home and garage, $25,000 for the vehicles and another $5-10 thousand for garage contents.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Any inquires for this incident can be directed to the Duluth Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.

Fire companies from Lakeside, UMD and Downtown responded to the fire. Mayo Clinic Ambulance service and Duluth Police were also on scene to assist in the incident.
