Maintenance on the Aerial Lift Bridge to begin Monday, February 14
[Duluth, MN] The sidewalk on the bayside (west) of the Aerial Lift Bridge will be closed due to maintenance from Monday, February 14 - 18. Contractors working on the bridge will be staging equipment as a part of their work which prompted the closure. The east sidewalk will remain open for pedestrians to use. Vehicular traffic will not be impacted while work is being done.
“This is the time of year when the City can do projects and maintenance on the Bridge that we wouldn’t be able to do during the shipping season,” Aerial Lift Bridge supervisor Dave Campbell said. “There will be multiple projects that are scheduled to be done between now and March 25. We are always asking the public to use caution when around the bridge. We will be sure to communicate to the public when work is being done and when sidewalk or vehicular traffic will be impacted.”
In past years, the City of Duluth has installed new LED lights on the bridge during the winter layup season. Other work has included camera upgrades, maintenance to electrical components of the bridge, and routine inspections.
“We have a short window that is weather permitting to get the work done,” Campbell said. “We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding during this time.”
