Juvenile Formally Charged with 2nd Degree Homicide

19-year-old Karimah Phuly died from stab wounds she sustained on Friday, March 11. The 15-year-old juvenile male has been formally charged with 2nd Degree Homicide by the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office.

At approximately 6:41 p.m., Duluth Police Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of E Superior St on a disturbance call where an adult family member was alleged to be assaulted. Officers investigated, spoke to the adult family member, determined that there wasn’t an assault, and cleared the scene at approximately 6:55 p.m.

At approximately 7:04 p.m., Duluth Police Officers were again dispatched to that same address for a medical call. That is when officers located Karimah Phuly unresponsive with stab wounds. Medical pronounced her deceased on scene.

This is still a very active and ongoing investigation and once more details become available, we will release them.

The Duluth Police Department wants to send our condolences to Karimah’s friends, family, and loved ones.

Duluth Police Officers Arrest Juvenile on 2nd Degree Murder Charges 

At approximately 6:42 p.m., Friday, March 11, Duluth Police Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of E Superior St on a disturbance call where an adult male family member was alleged to be assaulted. Upon arrival, officers investigated and spoke to the adult male family member. It was determined there was no assault and officers cleared the scene.
 
Duluth Police Officers were later dispatched to that same address for a medical call. Officers respond and locate a 19-year-old female family member unresponsive with injuries. Medical responded and pronounced the individual deceased on scene.
 
Upon further investigation, Duluth Police Officers apprehended a 14-year-old male family member that was determined to be involved. A search warrant was conducted and after further investigation, the juvenile male was lodged at the Arrowhead Juvenile Center for 2nd Degree Murder where he is awaiting to be formally charged by the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office.
 
The 19-year-old’s name will not be released at this time. This is an active and ongoing investigation and no further information will be released.
 
This is a tragic event and the Duluth Police Department’s condolences go out to the family, friends, and loved ones of the 19-year-old.
