Duluth Police Crisis Negations Team Respond to Male having a Mental Health Crisis
At approximately 8:15 a.m, Sunday, April 3, 2022, Duluth Police Officers responded to a male experiencing a mental health crisis who had been jumping out into traffic. The individual was eventually found by responding officers standing on the guard rail on the Lake Avenue ramp to southbound Interstate-35 threatening to jump.
Officers and members of the Duluth Police Department‘s Crisis Negotiations Team negotiated with the male for over an hour and a half before the individual decided to jump to the ground below. The male sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated by Mayo Ambulance and the Duluth Fire Department and was transported to a local hospital for further treatment and a mental health evaluation. The Minnesota State Patrol also assisted in this incident and traffic is back open.
