Individual Arrested on Multiple Pending Charges

At approximately 2:50 a.m., Tuesday, April 5, Duluth Police Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of E 1st Street for a report of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers spoke to individuals living in the apartment complex who stated that a male they knew, later identified as 42-year-old Duluth resident Hollis Veto Alfred Johnson, came looking for someone in their apartment and fired his weapon into their apartment door and left. Duluth Police Officers were unable to locate Johnson and consulted with the Duluth Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit.

At approximately 11:15 a.m. the same day, Duluth Police Violent Crime Investigators and the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force conducted a search warrant at an apartment in the complex. During the execution of the search warrant, Johnson was detained without incident and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment unrelated to the incident. Once cleared, Johnson will be booked in the St. Louis County Jail on pending charges of 1st Degree Sale of Controlled Substance, two counts of 2nd Degree Sale of Controlled Substance, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm. A handgun, ammunition, 14.3 grams of heroin/fentanyl mix, 1.5 grams of methamphetamine packaged for sale, and marijuana were seized during the search warrant.

Good work by all involved for safely and quickly apprehending Johnson without incident and taking drugs off our streets. If you or a loved one is suffering from Substance Use Disorder and is in need of help, reach out to the Duluth Police Department’s Substance Use Response Team at (218)-730-4009.
