City and Duluth Area Family YMCA team up to recruit lifeguards needed for Park Point
[Duluth, MN] The City of Duluth and the Duluth Area Family YMCA are working to bring lifeguarding services to Park Point Beach House this summer. Lifeguards play a crucial role in beach safety by monitoring conditions and providing residents and visitors a publicly accessible play to enjoy Lake Superior with trained and knowledgeable lifeguards on duty.
The City and the Duluth Area Family YMCA are asking for the public’s help recruiting lifeguards or people who want to become a lifeguard for the upcoming beach season. Lifeguards are urgently needed to apply to ensure that lifeguard services can continue this summer. The application to apply is April 29 to provide necessary training before Memorial Day weekend.
If you are already a lifeguard: please apply to be a Park Point Lifeguard on the Duluth YMCA website.
Not a lifeguard yet – or not currently certified? Apply anyway! Applicants who can pass all other components of the hiring process may be offered a position conditional upon successful completion of the lifeguard certification class, held at the Duluth YMCA at no cost to you. Learn more about the swimming requirements for the lifeguard certification by clicking here.
Lifeguards provide services from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Benefits include a YMCA membership, season bonuses, and community connection! The Duluth YMCA intends to have most of the summer schedule set at the beginning of the season to plan vacations and trips. The Duluth Fire Department supports lifeguarding and beach safety through managing beach warning flags and electronic signs and responding to water emergencies. Rescue stations and flags will be in place beginning on May 26. Up to date beach conditions are posted on www.parkpointbeach.org.
“Lifeguards play an essential role in beach safety,” Duluth Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj said. “With the hundreds of thousands of people who come enjoy Park Point in the summer, lifeguards positively impact their public safety. Lifeguards are not only there to save lives but to prevent drownings and injuries from occurring. If you are someone looking for meaningful employment, this is a job that checks that box.”
Questions regarding employment as a Park Point Lifeguard can be directed to Cheryl Podtburg at cpodtburg@duluthymca.org, or by calling 218-722-4745 ext. 115.
