Duluth Police provide information on East Hillside incident
[Duluth, MN] The Duluth Police Department (DPD) held a press conference today, at 5:00 p.m. providing additional information to a scene that unfolded the East Hillside this afternoon.
The situation started in Hermantown at 11:18 a.m. this morning when the Hermantown Police Department responded to a check welfare call. During this time the person’s (subject) residence was checked. Hermantown PD was unable to contact the individual.
During the Hermantown Police Department’s (HPD) investigation, the HPD reached out to the Duluth Police Department with information that lead the DPD to the 700 block of East 12th Street. Due to the intelligence discovered, numerous law enforcement and public safety agencies responded to the scene. The home that agencies responded to was known to the subject.
Before DPD arrived on scene at 12:29 p.m. officers had obtained information that the subject had access to weapons. When the DPD received that information, requests were made to the Superior Police Department, and St. Louis County’s Sheriff’s Department for additional assistance.
Due to the possibility of weapons on scene, there was a methodical search of the premise. Eventually, the Duluth Police Department was able to enter the home and located five deceased people and a deceased dog. It is believed that the individuals are all related.
Agencies that responded to the call included the Duluth Police Department, Superior Police Department, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, Hermantown Police Department, Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATFE), St. Louis County Social Services, DPD CORE Unit, and Mayo Ambulance responded to the call.
The names of the five individuals are being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
This is an active and ongoing investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
