Duluth Police Resolve Incident After Negotiating with Individual
At approximately 3:15 p.m., Monday, June 20, Duluth Police Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of N 58th Ave W for a report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, Officers quickly learned that this was not a burglary, but was a female suffering from a mental health crisis who officers observed to be armed with a shotgun. She initially refused Officers’ demands to drop the gun and officers heard a single shot discharged within the house. After a member of the Duluth Police Crisis Negotiation Team negotiated with the female for approximately 15 minutes, she complied with Officer’s commands and surrendered peacefully. No one was injured in this incident.
The female was identified as 38-year-old Duluth resident Amanda Martineau. Martineau was detained and transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. She will later be transported to the St Louis County Jail on pending charges of Felony Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and two counts of Gross Misdemeanor Child Endangerment.
Good work by Duluth Police Officers who quickly and safely resolved this incident without incident.
