The City of Duluth announces posting and process for Chief of Police
[Duluth, MN] The City of Duluth today opened applications for the Chief of Police position, which will be vacant on the retirement of Chief Mike Tusken. The City of Duluth is seeking a skilled Police Chief to provide strong and clear leadership to our Police Department, while ensuring the safety and health of over 86,000 residents and upholding community-minded values of transparency, inclusivity, collaboration and communication.
Additionally, the City of Duluth announced the process and timeline for the hiring process, which will include a series of public meetings so that the City can receive feedback, answer questions, and hear directly from community members. The City intends to host multiple community meetings across the city in the coming weeks. While more details will be announced on a later date (and the timeline may shift as needed during the search process), below is a general list of steps in this hiring process:
- Job posting live on July 1, 2022; 1st public meeting in July; Where: Central location; When: TBD
- 2nd public meeting later in July; Where: East location; When: TBD
- Job posting closes on July 31, 2022
- August – candidate review and interviews
- Early September - 3rd public meeting with finalist (or finalists); Where: West location; When: TBD and dependent on when there is a finalist (or finalists)
The City will also name an Interim Police Chief in the coming weeks – more information to come at a later date.
