THE LIBRARY EXPANDS SPACE FOR DULUTH AND SURROUNDING AREA TEENS

[DULUTH, Minn.] –  The Duluth Public Library, recognizing a need in Duluth for more free, comfortable, and safe spaces for teens in grades 6– 12; has expanded its teen space at the Main Library. There will be a ribbon cutting event with the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce on July 14, 2022, at 3:00 pm in the Main Library (520 W. Superior St.) new teen space.

The newly located and refreshed space on the Superior street level includes the expansive young adult book collections which also contains a wonderful collection of graphic novels and manga. Featured in the teen space are a variety of games and activities that may appeal to teens of varied interests. Knitting, crafting, drawing, and everything you need to run a Dungeons and Dragons campaign are available at all times.

Laptops can be checked out at the nearby Youth Services desk for teens to use whether they have a library card or not.

The library teen advisory board, which includes 25 engaged young people from Duluth, gave input on activities, displays, and helped create the seating area. They will continue to provide advice and input on what the library provides for teens in the future.

The teen space is available exclusively to teens in 6th -12th grade all the times that the library is open.

Funding for the furnishings, games and activities, and the teen advisory board are provided by the Duluth Library Foundation and the Friends of the Duluth Public Library.
