Downtown Task Force Releases First Set of Recommendations

News Conference Scheduled for 12:45 pm Monday, July 18, 2022 at Lake Superior Plaza

[Duluth, MN] After three months of meeting, today the Mayor’s Downtown Task Force is sharing a public update on their work and plans for initial recommendation.

The Task Force, co-chaired by Shaun Floerke of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation and Kristi Stokes of the Greater Downtown Council, has hosted four meetings to date.  Priorities from the task force have centered on Public Safety, Activation, Investment and Future Planning.  Additional members of the Task Force are:

  • Matt Baumgartner, President of Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce
  • John Cole, Executive Director at CHUM
  • Sara Cole, President and CEO at Duluth YMCA
  • Tony Cuneo, Executive Director at Zeitgeist Center of Arts and Community
  • Shaun Floerke, Taskforce Co-Chair and President of Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation
  • Arik Forsman, Duluth City Council
  • Steve LaFlamme, President of Oneida Realty / BOMA
  • Emily Larson, Mayor
  • Frank Jewell, St. Louis County Commissioner
  • Fred Lewis, President at North Shore Bank
  • Jon Pryor, President of East Market, Essentia Health
  • Roz Randorf, Duluth City Council
  • Katie Rohner, City of Duluth
  • Kristi Stokes, Taskforce Co-Chair and President of Greater Downtown Council

Although the task force is just half-way through its charge as announced at the Mayor’s State of the City address this spring, members feel it’s important to share their intent for action surrounding public safety and activation.

Please join us for a news conference Monday, July 18, 2022 at 12:45 pm at Lake Superior Plaza (corner of Lake Avenue and Superior Street) for details on the recommendations.
