August Community Events

August is just around the corner, and the Duluth Police Department has a busy month planned to engage with our community. Four public events are scheduled in August, where both sworn and professional staff will be out building relationships. All are welcome to join us.

National Night Out - Tuesday, August 2 from 5 – 9 p.m. at neighborhood block parties (participating blocks: https://duluthmn.gov/police/community-policing/national-night-out/)
The Duluth Police Department strives to attend every neighborhood block party throughout the City. This event introduces officers to our community members and establishes relationships outside of 911 calls.

Badges, Ball, & BBQ – Thursday, August 4 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Wade Stadium
This is the 13th Annual Charity Softball Game sponsored by the Northern Lights Foundation. The Duluth Police Department, Superior Police Department, Duluth Fire Department, and Superior Fire Department will square off in a game of softball to raise funds for local families with children facing life-threatening illnesses. All proceeds from the game remain in our area!

Operation K9 – Thursday, August 11 from 4 – 7:30 p.m. at University of Wisconsin, Superior
The 8th annual Operation K-9 is an opportunity for the public to meet K9s from various surrounding law enforcement agencies while enjoying family-friendly activities and K9 demonstrations.

Kids, Cops, & Cars – Thursday, August 18 from 1 – 4 p.m. at Bayfront
This event showcases multiple law enforcement and first responder vehicles for the community to explore. It’s also an opportunity for the public to engage with officers from surrounding law enforcement and first responder agencies.

“The Duluth Police Department recognizes that our authority comes from our social contract with the community and being able to engage with the public not only during these events, but also in day-to-day policing ensures that we are committed to working with our community to make Duluth a safe place to live, work, and play,” said Chief Mike Tusken.

The public is welcome to attend these four events and engage with staff at DPD. For further information regarding the events, go to our Facebook page (@DuluthMNPolice) or our website www.duluthmn.gov/police.
