SUBJECT: Two Invasive Knotweed Workshops to be Held in August
BY: Kelli Latuska, Public Information Officer

[Duluth, MN] – Two Invasive Knotweed workshops will be provided in August through a collaboration between the City of Duluth, Duluth Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (DCISMA), Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA), Carlton Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. The workshops are offered free of charge and all are welcome to attend.

Knotweed, also known locally as bamboo, is an invasive plant that spreads rapidly. It can cause damage to property, lakes, and stream corridors. Community engagement is critical to controlling this species in Duluth and the surrounding region. Area experts from the MDA and DCISMA will teach attendees how to identify knotweed, map where populations occur, and slow the plant’s spread.
