Duluth Police Department Participates in the Red Ribbon Campaign
In partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA, the Duluth Police Department is participating in the Red Ribbon Campaign. This campaign not only brings awareness to drug use and the problems related to drugs facing our community but also honors Enrique ‘Kiki’ Camarena, a DEA Special Agent who was killed by drug traffickers in 1985.
“The red magnets will honor Enrique Camarena and also bring attention to the inherent dangers of drugs in our community,” said Chief Mike Ceynowa. “We all can do a part in creating a drug-free community and supporting those who are suffering from substance use disorders.”
The red magnets were donated by the DEA and will be on the back of DPD’s squad cars throughout the month of October. The magnets will help encourage those in our community to promote a drug-free lifestyle and remind those that are suffering from a substance use disorder that there are resources out there for them.
The Duluth Police Department wants to remind you to reach out to the Substance Use Response Team (SURT) if you are in need of help related to drug abuse. SURT helps bridge the gap between behavioral health crises and getting individuals the help they need.
