SUBJECT: 9/11 Northland Heroes Tribute

Northland Heroes Tribute scheduled for September 11, 2010
 
 
Mayor Don Ness, dignitaries, and the community will gather to honor those who lost their lives on September 11, nine years ago and to support the men and women who sacrifice their lives each day to ensure safety and freedom.
 
The September 11 tribute begins with a 5K Walk/Run starting at 9:00 AM on the Western Lake Superior Waterfront Trail. People can register for the race by logging onto NorthlandRunners.com or Midwestevents.com.  The race is open to the public.
 
Also beginning at 9:00 AM is the Northland Heroes Softball Tournament. This is a slow pitch tournament that will be held at the Sunset Bar and Grill Softball Complex located on Martin Road. Teams wishing to participate can contact Corey Verhel at 218-723-5137.
 
The day will culminate with an evening ceremony at 5:00 PM in Wade Stadium in West Duluth. The event will feature the Scottish Rite Pipes and Drum Corp, Honor and Color Guards from various agencies, Brig. General Tim Cossalter will be the keynote speaker with music also provided by Bill Bastian.
