CORE Unit Awarded During Summit

The Duluth Police Department’s Mental Health (CORE) Unit was the first recipient of the Team Impact Award during the 2022 Criminal Justice Mental Health Summit by the Law Enforcement Training Academy and Consulting for being the first mental health collaboration team in the state, being innovative, and helping pave the way for other groups over the years.

"I am proud of the members of the CORE Unit for this achievement and recognition," said Chief Mike Ceynowa. "This award is a positive step forward for the Duluth Police Department continuing to be innovative in ways we help those in our community get the resources they need."

In 2021, 485 individuals suffering from mental health issues have been referred to the CORE Unit. Members of the Unit then connect these individuals with partnerships or resources in our community.
