Now on Display at the Duluth Public Library: First Ladies of the Hillside Art Exhibit
DULUTH, Minn- The First Ladies of the Hillside Art Exhibit is up at the Duluth Public Library (520 W. Superior St.) now through the end of May. The multi-artist, multi-media show is on display in the Main Library Computer Center and can be viewed by the public any time during the Main Library’s open hours.
In their words, the First Ladies of the Hillside "...is a grassroots group of women who are working together from inside of the Central Hillside community to create opportunities for kindness and generosity for ourselves and our community.” The group was formed in the summer of 2020 and has been active in the community in a variety of ways, ranging from social entrepreneurship to neighborhood cleanups to making and sharing their art.
“Each piece is created with a passion to heal and a desire to create a better life for my children. I actively work to break the generational cycle of trauma by sharing my creative process with my children. Expressing emotions on a canvas gives us a positive way to communicate and express our feelings.” —statement by the artist who goes by Spirit of She
“My art has helped me to reach a place of forgiveness and self-forgiveness and my hope is that it brings the same to each person who sees my pieces…” —statement by artist Amber Pelfry
The art exhibit is free and includes sculpture, mixed media paintings, acrylic paintings, fiber works, and copies of a zine that visitors are welcome to take with them. The show will be on display until Wednesday, May 31.
