Duluth Fire Department responds to water emergency at Pier B

[DULUTH, MN] At 8:26 am on Thursday, April 27, Duluth Fire Department was dispatched to a water emergency at 800 Railroad Street near Pier B. Rescue 1, 1 Engine, 1 Tower, and 2 Engine all responded to the call, as did Duluth Police Department, St. Louis County Rescue, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, and the US Coast Guard.

Upon arrival at the scene, respondents found a 47-year-old Duluth male in the water, clutching the remains of old Pier D. US Coast Guard was first to reach the man, and they pulled the man from the water and transported him via their watercraft to DFD for on scene care. He was then transported via Mayo Ambulance to a local hospital for assessment and treatment for possible hypothermia. He appeared to have no other injuries.

“Thanks to the collaboration and cooperation of DFD, DPD, Saint Louis County Sheriff’s Department and Rescue Squads, Mayo Ambulance, and USCG, this person received swift attention that will lead to better outcomes for them,” said Assistant Chief Dennis Edwards of the rescue effort.
