Duluth, MN—The Friends of the Duluth Public Library Annual Summer Book Sale is back for its 43rd year and starts Monday, June 12 with a members-only pre-sale from 10 am to 4 pm. Memberships can be renewed or purchased at the door. The sale is open to the general public on Tuesday, June 13 from 10 am to 7 pm; Wednesday, June 14 from 10 am to 4 pm; and Thursday, June 15 from 10 am to 3 pm. On Thursday, a grocery bag full of materials can be purchased for just $5.00 in selected rooms. 

The annual sale is held at the Main Library (520 W. Superior St.) in downtown Duluth. The tradition began in 1980 at the then-brand new library. The first book sale raised $3,646 and included community tours of the new building. Forty-three years later, volunteers are hoping to raise five times the amount of the first sale and the library building is under review as part of the City of Duluth Library and Workforce Center Redesign Project.

The proceeds from the annual sale help fund library programs and events for all ages, including the seasonal Reading Programs, "take and make" project kits for kids and adults, and Kaleidoscope, a free outdoor summer entertainment program series for children.
