LSVOTF and DPD Arrest Violent Offender

At approximately 12 p.m., Wednesday, June 7, Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force Investigators, with assistance from the Duluth Police Officers, conducted a search warrant in the area of 2nd Ave E and E 3rd St. During the execution of the warrant, 43-year-old Duluth resident Melvin Carlton was detained without incident after attempting to flee from officers on a stolen bicycle. During a search warrant of his persons, a loaded firearm, magazine, and methamphetamine were located and seized. Carlton was lodged at the St. Louis County Jail on a warrant and pending charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, 5th Degree Possession of Methamphetamine, and Fleeing.

Investigators and Officers conducted another search warrant at Carlton’s residence. Ammunition and evidence of fentanyl sales were located and seized.

Good work to everyone involved in this call for safely taking another violent offender off the streets and holding them accountable for their actions.
