Love Your Block 2023 grant recipients announced

[DULUTH, MN] City of Duluth Love Your Block project grants for this season were announced yesterday in a press conference at City Hall. This year, residents, businesses, and organizations in the Lincoln Park and Central Hillside neighborhoods were invited to apply for $500 grants that focus on abandoned waste and trash, external home repairs, trees, and community connection. “Our community has a history of being excellent at finding and funding solutions that work for all of us,” said Mayor Emily Larson at the press conference, “and I’m excited that this model encourages innovation and experimentation for reducing blight and promoting resident and government partnerships.”

The City of Duluth, along with seven other cities nationwide, was awarded a Love Your Block grant, which is funded by the Bloomberg Philanthropies and Cities of Service. The funding is over the course of two years, starting in February 2022 and ending in February 2024.

The Love Your Block program promotes resident leadership in focusing funds to benefit neighborhoods, one block at a time. A grant selection committee made up of residents of Lincoln Park and Central Hillside reviewed applications and recommended awards. The Love Your Block team also reviews applications to identify ways that city services, community organizations, and individuals could further support the success of proposed activities. Love Your Block is part of a rich tapestry of current efforts by agencies, organizations, and individuals to improve the health, safety, and quality of life for all Duluth residents.
