On Friday, October 1, 2010, at 5:42 PM, the Duluth Police Department investigated a three vehicle crash at the intersection of Haines Road and Maple Grove Road.

Preliminary investigation determined that a white 2001 Chevy pickup was traveling westbound on Maple Grove Road in the left lane when it collided with a maroon 2002 Mitsubishi Galant. The Galant was turning left from eastbound Maple Grove Road onto northbound Haines Road. As a result of the collision, the pickup truck was redirected to the right where it collided with silver 2006 Honda Accord that was turning right from southbound Haines Road onto westbound Maple Grove Road.

Both occupants of the Mitsubishi were ejected from the vehicle. The male occupant was identified as Joshua Richard Miens, age 29 of Hermantown and the female occupant was identified as Kimberly J. Carter, age 28, also of Hermantown. Both Miens and Carter were taken to St. Mary’s by Gold Cross Ambulance where they are listed as in serious but stable condition at this time.

The driver of the pickup was identified as Lucas Paul Carlson, age 19 of Duluth. A passenger in the truck was Eric David Carlson, age 23 of Cloquet. Neither Lucas nor Eric Carlson reported any injury.

The driver of the Honda was identified as Laurie Rae Chicos, age 43 of Esko. Chicos was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured.
