The Duluth Police Department arrested a 45 year old Duluth male Saturday morning after a reported stabbing at the Seaway Hotel.
 
On Saturday, October 2, 2010, at 4:10 AM, Duluth Police officers were called to the Seaway Hotel, 2001 West Superior Street to investigate the report that a 38 year female had been stabbed in the back by her boyfriend. The victim told officers that her boyfriend had stabbed her when she was trying to leave their apartment. She also told officers that she believed the boyfriend was still in the apartment.
 
Officers went to the apartment and located the boyfriend. After speaking with him briefly, he was taken into custody without incident. Officers also located a knife in the apartment believed to have been used in the stabbing.
 
Donald Ray Wells, age 45 of Duluth, was transported to the St. Louis County Jail where he is being held pending formal charges for Second Degree Assault and Fifth Degree Domestic Assault.
 
The victim was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital where she was being treated for a punctured lung. The injury was non life threatening.
 
The investigation into the stabbing is ongoing and no further details are available at this time. It has been referred to the Departments Violent Crime Unit.
