City of Duluth to host public meeting regarding upcoming Sixth Avenue East resurfacing and reconfiguration project on October 12
[DULUTH, MN] The City of Duluth will host a public meeting on October 12, 2023 regarding the resurfacing and reconfiguration of Sixth Avenue East between East Second Street and Mesaba Avenue. This public meeting is intended to provide a project schedule and proposed layout for the project, and to gather feedback from the community on the project.
The City of Duluth will host this public meeting on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (219 N Sixth Avenue East, Duluth, MN). Due to construction in the area there are currently detours in place, the parking lot can be accessed from the alley below Third Street or by using the temporary two-way section of Third Street from Fifth Avenue East. There will be childcare and food provided during the meeting by Zeitgeist.
The design and engineering of the project will take place in 2023, with construction scheduled for 2024. Funding for the project will come from the Street Sales Tax Fund.
The scope of work for the project includes:
- Overlay of the existing concrete pavement with asphalt
- ADA improvements for pedestrians
- Reconfiguration of the existing roadway from a 4-lane road to a 3-lane road with a center turn lane and bike lanes on both sides
There will be a presentation about the project and information about roadway reconfigurations beginning at 5:30 pm, participants will then have an opportunity to share their input about the design in an open house format.
If you cannot attend the meeting, but would like to follow the project and/or discuss the project please reach out to the City’s Project Engineer Alex Popp, PE at apopp@duluthmn.gov.
