City of Duluth to provide update on Spirit Lake/U. S. Steel project at media event Wednesday

Wednesday, October 25, 2023 | Spirit Lake site location by way of Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad | 8:45 AM arrival

[DULUTH, MN] The City of Duluth, along with its partners including U. S. Steel and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), will host a unique media tour to provide an update on the years-long clean-up efforts at the Spirit Lake site on Wednesday, October 25. The City and partners will detail various park and trail improvements along the former Superfund site from a train ride on Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad, as the site itself is currently not accessible to the general public. Members of the media will be given an opportunity to collect images at the site.

Participating media members should RSVP to Public Information Officer Kelli Latuska either by email at klatuska@duluthmn.gov or by phone or text at (218) 206-5066 by 4:00 PM on Tuesday, October 24 to receive shuttle location and parking information details. Shuttle service will be provided to the train and back and will leave the arrival and departure location no later than 8:50 AM on Wednesday. Media participants will be required to meet at the shuttle service as the LSMR train will be departing from an area that has no vehicle parking.

Media participants should dress for the weather and terrain. This event should last approximately one hour plus shuttle travel.
