Duluth Fire Department responds to structure fire at 330 N 60th Avenue E

[DULUTH, MN] At 1:48 PM today, November 20, Duluth Fire Department was dispatched to a call of a structure fire at 330 N 60th Avenue E. The report came in as a detached garage burning that was about ten feet from the house. En route to the scene Duluth Fire crews were advised the fire was spreading to a nearby tree and was starting to blister the paint on the house.

Crews from Headquarters, Station 6, Station 11, and Station 8 responded. Crews first on scene found a two-stall garage fully involved in fire. While contained mostly to the garage, the fire was threatening to soon spread to the owner’s home. Crews deployed a hose line and wet the house and adjacent property to prevent the spread of the fire. The garage and its contents were a total loss, with damages estimated to be between $125,000 and $150,000. No injuries were reported in the incident. Duluth Fire Marshals were soon on the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.

During the incident, five separate vehicles drove over one of the hydrant lines being used to fight the fire. The Duluth Fire Department cannot stress enough the importance of NOT driving over our hoses whether or not they are charged with water. This puts our equipment, people’s property and most importantly our staff in jeopardy. When crews are working on our emergency scenes please find an alternate route to avoid our staff and equipment.

Duluth Fire Department thanks its partners at Duluth Police Department, Mayo Ambulance, and Saint Louis County 911 dispatch for their assistance in the response to this incident.
