Press Conference: Wednesday, March 13, 2024 | 10:00 AM

 

[DULUTH, MN] Construct Tomorrow will take place on Tuesday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 13 from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm in Edmund Fitzgerald Hall and DECC Arena at the DECC.

 

A press conference will be held Wednesday, March 13 at 10:00 am with President of the Duluth Building and Construction Trades Council Jack Carlson, Duluth Mayor Roger J. Reinert, the Superintendent of ISD 709 John Magas, Director of Duluth Workforce Development Elena Foshay, Duluth Chamber President Matt Baumgartner, and additional community leaders.

 

Area high school students will explore hands-on opportunities to interface with construction organizations and experience the work performed in different building and construction trade careers at these events. Students will wire circuits, trowel cement, set tile and much more as they move through a series of stations staffed by representatives of local union apprenticeship programs in the construction field. Students will learn about earn-as-you-learn apprenticeships in high demand, living wage careers that are vital to the economic growth of our region.

 

Additionally, Duluth Construction Career Night, a community event open to the public, will be held from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm on Tuesday, March 12 in Edmund Fitzgerald Hall and DECC Arena at the DECC.  This is an opportunity for anyone interested in a building and construction trade careers to meet with representatives of local union apprenticeship programs, interact with contractors who are hiring, and try out some of the tools and skills that are part of the Union Apprenticeship jobs in construction. Parking will be free for those attending the event.
