Update to Friday, April 12 Homicide

UPDATE:
9 a.m., Thursday, June 27
On Friday, April 19, an arrest warrant was issued from the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office for three individuals who are suspected to be involved in Friday, April 12 homicide of Chantel Moose. On Wednesday, June 26, the U.S. Marshall’s Office acted on behalf of that arrest warrant and arrested 34-year-old Canton, Michigan resident, Darrius Plummer for 2nd Degree Murder Without Intent and 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. 26-year-old Illinois resident Kimonte Cadge was also arrested on Wednesday, May 15 for 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. The arrest warrant for 26-year-old Duluth resident Trayvon Walters for 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon is still active.
This incident remains an active and ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time.

UPDATE:
3:30 p.m., Friday, April 19
After a thorough investigation into Friday’s homicide, arrest warrants have been issued for three individuals who are suspected to be involved in the incident.
34-year-old Canton, Michigan resident, Darrius Plummer is wanted for 2nd Degree Murder Without Intent, 26-year-old Duluth, Minnesota resident, Trayvon Walters is wanted for 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and 26-year-old Kimonte Cadge is wanted for 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
“Holding these offenders accountable and conducting an extensive and thorough investigation into this tragic homicide was a top priority for our police department,” said Chief Mike Ceynowa. “We hope that the arrest of these three men will bring peace to Chantel, her family, and her loved ones as they are grieving her loss.”

11:15 a.m., Monday, April 15
The Duluth Police Department is committed to solving this case and are following all leads to hold those accountable for this tragic incident. This remains a very active and ongoing investigation. These cases are extremely complex and labor intensive. As more details become available, we will be sure to share them with you without harming the integrity of the investigation. UPDATE:
9:35 a.m., Saturday, April 13
The Duluth Police Department wants to share our thoughts and prayers to 25-year-old Duluth resident Chantel Moose and her loved ones as they are grieving her loss.
Yesterday, DPD’s Tactical Response Team and Drone Unit executed a search warrant at Kingsley Heights for a person of interest. A subject was located and interviewed. The Duluth Police Department continues to investigate this incident and are seeking those responsible for this tragic event.
We believe this is an isolated event between two known parties.
This incident remains an active and ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time.

11 a.m., Friday, April 12
Mayor Roger Reinert and Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa provides statements to this early morning homicide:
“I want to extend my condolences to the loved ones of the victim in today’s early morning homicide. Any loss of life in our community is tragic, and loss of life as the result of violent crimes is unacceptable. Further, gun violence of any kind in our community is unacceptable,” said Mayor Roger Reinert. “We will have all means at our disposal to find those responsible for this tragic incident and hold them accountable for their actions.”
“The Duluth Police Department has been actively working on increasing safety measures to keep downtown Duluth safe. This includes increasing foot patrol and working with our businesses to ensure safety is all of our priority,” said Chief Mike Ceynowa. “Specifically, beginning in September of 2022 we made significant changes in our approach to the area of 1st St. and N 1st Ave W. These changes resulted in a 53% reduction in violent crime between Quarter 4 2022 and Quarter 4 2023. DPD will continue to work with our business partners to address behaviors in this area. We will not tolerate violence in our community.”

UPDATE:
8:45 a.m., Friday, April 12
The female victim was pronounced deceased at a local hospital from a stab wound to the neck. A short time later, another male arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound and left against medical advice. It is unknown if this male is related to the original incident.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation and the 100 block of W 1st St is open to the public.

ORIGINAL:
5 a.m., Friday, April 12
At approximately 2:15 a.m., Friday, April 12, Duluth Police responded to reports of sounds of gunshots and a possible stabbing in the 100 block of W 1st St. Upon arrival, officers located an injured female. The female was transported to a local hospital by Mayo Ambulance where she was pronounced deceased. The victim’s name won’t be released until next of kin is notified. Officers are still on scene conducting an investigation. The 100 block of W 1st St will be closed until further notice. This remains and active and ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
