Public invited to Beyond the Yellow Ribbon of Duluth community celebration
Mayor Don Ness will join military officials and community members on Thursday, October 28, 2010 for a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon of Duluth community celebration. In September, Duluth was recognized by Governor Tim Pawlenty for its community efforts to support military members and families. This celebration is a culmination of dedication and work of the Duluth Yellow Ribbon City Steering Committee formed by Mayor Ness. The Committee developed an action plan which serves to educate and engage the community about the needs of military families and connect neighbors to help neighbors.
“Military members and their families make a significant sacrifice to our country. The Duluth community is united to help meet the needs of our friends, families, and neighbors as they face deployment or integration into the community. I am proud and appreciative of the leadership provided by the Duluth Yellow Ribbon City Steering Committee whose efforts were critical in Duluth’s attainment of this recognition,” said Mayor Don Ness.
Mayor Ness invites the public to the community celebration which will take place at the Greysolon Ballroom (in Greysolon Plaza), 231 East Superior Street, in downtown Duluth. The event runs from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a formal program at 3:30 p.m. Attendees will hear from community leaders and have a chance to connect with community resources for military servicemembers, veterans, and their families. The event is free and open to the public to come and learn about opportunities to support military families.
The event is sponsored by the City of Duluth, the Duluth Yellow Ribbon City Steering Committee, and the generous support of Blackwoods (Greysolon Ballroom).
Beyond the Yellow Ribbon is a comprehensive program that creates awareness for the purpose of connecting servicemembers and their families with community support, training, services and resources. Additional information on this statewide program is available by visiting www.btyr.org
