City of Duluth to perform bridge inspections next week; traffic nearby may be impacted

 

 

[DULUTH, MN] The City of Duluth will perform bridge inspections next week at nine locations throughout the city. At each location, temporary traffic control measures will need to be put in place to allow the inspectors to safely complete this important work. In some cases roads may be closed. Motorists and pedestrians should be advised to avoid the areas to the extent practical to allow for inspections to be performed safely.

 

Bridge inspection locations with the expected traffic control measures are as follows:

 

Monday, August 19

 

Vermillion Road:

Location: Between Saint Marie Street and Lakeview Drive

Type of Traffic Control: Road Closure

Both road and sidewalks will be closed during the inspection.

 

East Superior Street:

Location: Between Congdon Park Drive and 33rd Avenue East

Type of Traffic Control: Flagger Control

Flaggers will be directing traffic as needed. Drivers should expect temporary delays while travelling the road. An automated flagger device may be utilized. Pedestrians will be accommodated in the work zone but may be directed to cross the street during inspections.

 

Seven Bridges Road:

Location: Between the Lester River Chalet and Skyline Parkway

Type of Traffic Control: Road Closure

Road will be closed to vehicle traffic. Pedestrian traffic will be limited and not allowed to pass the inspection area. Drivers will need to utilize Skyline Parkway, Glenwood Street, and 60th Avenue East to detour the inspection area.

 

Tuesday, August 20

 

27th Avenue West:

Location: Between I-35 off-ramps and Courtland Street

Type of Traffic Control: Flagger Control

Flaggers will be directing traffic during this inspection. Drivers should expect significant delays if trying to access WLSSD facilities or offices.

 

9th Street:

Location: Between Chester Park Drive and E 6th Street

Type of Traffic Control: Flagger Control

Flaggers will be directing traffic as needed. Drivers should expect temporary delays while travelling the road. An automated flagger device may be utilized. Pedestrians will be accommodated in the work zone but may be directed to cross the street during inspections.

 

West 10th Street: 

Location: Between 24th Avenue West and 25th Avenue West

Type of Traffic Control: Road Closure

Vehicle access will be prohibited during the inspection. Drivers needing passage should utilize 3rd Street or Skyline Parkway around Lincoln Park. Pedestrian access may be limited and required to cross the street.

 

Wednesday, August 21

 

Waseca Industrial Road (two bridges):

Location: Between Leisure Street and Central Avenue

Type of Traffic Control: Road Closure

No vehicles will be allowed on the bridges during inspection activities. The intersection of 59th Street West and Raleigh Street will be temporarily reopened to allow for vehicles needing to access businesses south of the railroad to be accommodated. Pedestrians will be accommodated in the work zone but may be directed to cross the street during inspections.

 

Thursday, August 22

 

Skyline Parkway:

Location: Between 100th Ave W and the Snively Ski Trail Parking Area

Type of Traffic Control: Road Closure

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be prohibited from using the bridge during the inspection operations. Non-local traffic should plan alternative routes ahead of time.
