Duluth Workforce Development offering free Introduction to Human Services course
[DULUTH, MN] Duluth Workforce Development is offering a new, no cost, one-semester Introduction to Human Services training course offered in response to the critical need for trained staff by mental health, addiction treatment, and human service organizations in the Duluth community (1,500+ projected position openings in Northeast Minnesota over the next decade).
The Intro to Human Services course offers an entry point into a fulfilling career. Course participants will earn college credit through Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College that can be applied toward a two-year Human Services degree. Participants also receive additional academic support and job placement assistance.
The course will feature tours and presentations from many area social services employers including CHUM, Life House, Safe Haven, Northwood Children’s Services, and Center for Alcohol and Drug Treatment, and is offered in partnership with SOAR Career Solutions, True North Goodwill, Duluth Adult Education, Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, and the State of Minnesota’s Department of Employment and Economic Development.
Course topics will include professional ethics, client assessment, case management, and career planning. Participants will work with a job counselor to take the skills they learned in class and find meaningful employment to start their career in human services.
Classes will be held at Duluth Adult Education in downtown Duluth. Classes are scheduled to run September 23 through December 5, 2024. No prior educational or professional experience is needed to take the class. Eligibility criteria does apply.
