Temporary closure of 400 Block of East Third Street begins tomorrow
[DULUTH, MN] The City of Duluth is announcing a temporary closure of the 400 block of E Third Street beginning Tuesday, September 24. A contractor working to demolish the old St. Mary’s Hospital will begin work forcing the temporary closure. The closure will detour traffic around the block but access to the Third Street Clinic will be available during clinic operating hours. Patients and transport services should follow signs posted at the corner of Fifth Avenue E and Third Street to access the clinic. During non-operating hours, the road will be completely closed to the public while the contractor works to remove the skywalk above Third Street.
A posted detour will direct through traffic to Fourth Street via Fifth Avenue West, to Fourth Avenue West around the work area. Additionally, work being performed on Third Street at the Sixth Avenue East intersection will be extended into next week, closing Sixth Ave East between Fourth and Third Streets. A detour map is included here.
Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes, if possible, to access the area around the hospital. Delays and heavy traffic should be expected. The closure is anticipated to be in place through September 27.
