Temporary closure of one block section of First Avenue East begins Tuesday, October 1

[DULUTH, MN] A contractor will be closing First Avenue East for utility repairs between First Street and Second Street in downtown Duluth starting on Tuesday, October 1. This temporary closure is planned through Friday, October 11. This closure will affect the road and sidewalks. There will be a posted detour using First Street, Lake Avenue, Second Street, and Second Avenue East. Both pedestrians and drivers should follow the detour signs in the vicinity.

This closure will also include the following:

• Second Street: Closure of the parking lane and a single travel lane on Second Street around the intersection with First Avenue East. No parking signs will be posted and enforced. Two lanes of Second Street will remain open.
• Alley between First Street and Second Street: Residents and customers who utilize this alley should access the various blocks from either Lake Avenue or Second Avenue East. The alley crossing at First Avenue East will be closed during this work.

This is a portion of a larger project that will include future closures of First Avenue East between First Street and Fourth Street. Updates will be provided as ongoing work progresses.
