Duluth Fire Department responds to structure fire on 1600 block of E Third Street

[DULUTH, MN] At 5:33 AM this morning, October 16, Duluth Fire Department was dispatched to a call of a structure fire at an eight-plex multifamily residential structure on the 1600 block of E Third Street. Crews from UMD, Woodland, Headquarters, and Lakeside all responded. Two units in the complex were affected by fire.

Fire crews were able to safely rescue two cats and one dog in the apartment of origin after the unit’s tenant was able to self-rescue. There were no injuries reported, and all tenants and pets were able to safely evacuate the structure. One displaced tenant is being assisted by the American Red Cross and by neighbors. Damage to the structure, which was limited to two of the eight units, is estimated at $25K.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal’s office, but does not appear to be suspicious in nature. Thanks to Duluth Police for their assistance in the evacuation. Thanks, also, go to our partners at MN Power and St. Louis County 911 Dispatch for their work in the response.
