Duluth Workforce Development Board seeking applications for board membership

 

 

[DULUTH, MN] The Duluth Workforce Development Board is currently accepting applications for membership. The Duluth Workforce Development Board identifies and aligns workforce development strategies to meet the needs of Duluth area employers and job seekers through comprehensive and coordinated systems. The board’s vision is to build an engaged and diverse workforce where all individuals, regardless of background, have or are on a path to having meaningful employment and a family sustaining wage, and where all employers can fill their jobs on demand. The 27-member board has a term length of three years, and its meetings are in-person on a schedule predetermined by its executive committee.

 

Members of the Duluth Workforce Development Board must represent a business, organization, or population in one of the following categories:

 

    • Owner, chief executive officer, chief operating officer, or other individual with optimum policymaking or hiring authority of a business located in Duluth, or that employs a significant number of Duluth residents.  Preference given to businesses in one of the following key industry sectors: Healthcare, Manufacturing, Construction, IT, Education, Transportation/Logistics
    • Representatives of labor organizations and/or joint labor-management/union-affiliated registered apprenticeship program
    • Community-based organizations with experience and/or expertise in workforce development, particularly as it relates to individuals with disabilities or barriers to employment
    • Organizations with experience and/or expertise in youth workforce development, and/or experience serving out-of-school youth
    • Representatives of economic and/or community development entities
    • Youth between the ages of 16 and 24 (1-year term).

 

Applications for the Duluth Workforce Development Board are being accepted through December 6, 2024. Applications will be reviewed, and applicants may be invited for an interview with the board’s governance committee.  Once recommended by the governance committee and approved by the board’s executive committee, the nomination will be forwarded to Mayor Reinert for appointment.
