City of Duluth to hold Spirit Valley Core Investment Area Plan community meeting next week

[DULUTH, MN] City of Duluth’s planning staff will host a community meeting in Spirit Valley next week to gather input in the early stages of the Spirit Valley Core Investment Area Plan.  This initiative aims to guide public and private investment in the district to foster a vibrant and thriving neighborhood center.  Spirit Valley’s rich history, active community, and existing economic infrastructure provides a solid foundation for a comprehensive visioning and planning process.

The community meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 3, in the Evergreen/City Center West community center, located at 5830 Grand Avenue. The event will begin with an open house at 5:00 pm, with displays and informal feedback opportunities for participants to engage with city planners. At 5:30 PM, participants will view a short presentation by planning staff, as well as map-based exercises to define areas of importance to the community and small group exercises to brainstorm ideas to strengthen the business district and surrounding residential areas.

City planners began community engagement surrounding the Spirit Valley Core Investment Area in August of this year, at various community events and at two walking tours of the area. City planning staff are leading the effort to gather input from community members, work with a plan committee and public to evaluate options, formulate recommended actions into a plan, seek approval of the plan by the public and decision makers, and empower stakeholders to implement the plan. City planners are also actively soliciting community responses to an opinion survey, which is available on the Spirit Valley Core Investment Area Plan section of the website, located here: https://duluthmn.gov/planning-development/long-range-planning/core-investment-areas/spirit-valley-core-investment-area-plan/

A second community meeting on the topic will be held sometime in spring 2025.
