Dr. Marsha Lue selected as City of Duluth’s Human Rights and Equity Officer
[DULUTH, MN] Mayor Roger J. Reinert announced today the selection of Dr. Marsha Lue as the City of Duluth’s next Human Rights and Equity Officer (HREO). The role is a mayoral appointment; however, Mayor Reinert chose to conduct an extensive hiring process for the role that included a first-ever job description. The position includes requirements contained in the City Charter, as well as leadership for city workforce equity, inclusion, and workplace culture initiatives. The HREO will also serve as a resource for businesses and organizations in Duluth.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Marsha to the team,” said Reinert. “Her proven commitment to serving the community, particularly her service to marginalized populations, will help improve accessibility to local government for all residents.”
Dr. Marsha Lue has worked in higher education, primarily working with federal TRIO Programs for over two decades, most recently serving as the TRIO Student Support Services Director at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She has taught courses in psychology, Indigenous Studies, equity, diversity, and inclusion, social justice, and belonging at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Lue also guest lectures in local classrooms and has presented at various local, regional, and national conferences.
“I’m excited tobecome part of a strong team and eager to connect with our community members. I look forward to working with the City and serving my community in this new capacity,” said Dr. Lue.
Dr. Lue has served as a commissioner and chair of the Duluth Human Rights Commission since her appointment in 2021. In her position as Human Rights and Equity Officer, Lue will connect with the Human Rights Commission, as well as other Duluth equity and diversity commissions.
She and her husband Peter live in Duluth and enjoy the many activities and events that the Twin Ports has to offer.
The position of Human Rights and Equity Officer is appointed by the mayor and subject to approval of the Duluth City Council.
