Detour planned for 100 block of East First Street beginning tomorrow, April 10

[DULUTH, MN] Contractors will close the 100 block of East First Street beginning Thursday, April 10, 2025. This closure will include all lanes of traffic and the north/hill side of East First Street, beginning at the intersection and extending to the entrance to the HART ramp. The sidewalk on the south/lake side of the street will remain open. Access to the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial will remain open via the sidewalk on both East First Street and Second Avenue during the work period. Detours will be posted and will include:

• Eastbound: Detour at First Avenue E to Second Street, Second Street to Second Avenue E, Second Avenue E back to First Street.
• Westbound: Detour at Second Avenue E to Superior Street, Superior Street to First Avenue E, First Avenue E back to First Street.

The closure is expected to last approximately six weeks but may need to be extended. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes when possible. Drivers may wish to avoid the area when traveling, as trucks will be hauling material in the vicinity in greater volume than typical.
